It's
Birthday Time!
Every birthday desires a party that is worth remembering. Keeping it simple
doesn't mean you can't make it special!
Two
to three weeks before the party:
- Send
out invitations on colorful paper - if the party has a theme, think
creative and make the invitation fit the theme.
- Sprinkle
a pinch of confetti inside the envelope. Seal with assorted birthday
stickers and you're off to the post office!
A
few hours before the party:
- Set
the table with birthday-themed tableware.
- Place
a party hat and foil horn at each place setting.
- Sprinkle
confetti all around the table.
- Put
out all needed serving pieces and utensils so they'll be handy later.
- Blow
up balloons and attach ribbon strings. Helium will let the balloons
float. If you don't have access to helium, blow up the balloons the
old fashioned way and hang them from the back of chairs, doorways or
central light fixtures. Or eliminate the ribbon strings and leave the
balloons strewn on floor. Use any remaining curling ribbon to hang from
just about anywhere or just placed on tables.
- Hang
a birthday banner and streamers.
The
party begins:
- Greet
each guest with a Hawaiian lei. A warm birthday "aloha" is always welcome.
- Place
a foil crown on the head of the "Birthday King/Queen". Pin on a Birthday
Star pin and tell them how special they are to you.
- When
it's time for the big moment, the more drama and off key singing the
better!
- Be
sure to have a camera on hand to capture every moment!
Play
games and activities:
- Play
Pin-the-tail on the Donkey. It's fun to play at any age and will bring
back many a fond memory and create some new ones.
Food
and Drink:
- Make
it easy by serving finger foods with a choice of beverages. Serve simple,
tried and true favorites. A quick trip to the supermarket for already
prepared foods or calling for take out are great time savers.
- Make
the cake special and don't forget the ice cream!
- Mix
sparklers and regular candles on the cake for guaranteed smiles when
the trick ones don't blow out!
The
party ends: say good-byes
- Fill
a loot bag with candy and toys. Toss in any extra confetti. Tie each
bag with curling ribbon.
