Puttin that Picnic Together
Just like the people who serve them, picnics vary from homespun to drama-filled. If its a fun, stress-free day youre after, the task can be as easy as slapping together a few sandwiches, grabbing bags of chips and cookies, and packing paper serveware.
If youre taking a style-savvy approach, youll need to plan more carefully. Linens, real dishes, and even a few decorations, and a more distinctive menu are in order. Whichever route you choose, remember that youve got to cart every single thing along.and take a good share back too. So make sure your site is accessible and that youve got good help or a strong lumbar!
As a rule of thumb, simple is good. Limit your menu. Itll be easier to get food there unscrambled. (Might be tough to keep a wavy meringue intact if youre hiking up a mountain.) And make sure you can maintain food temps (take our word for it -- food poisoning isnt pretty). If youre planning to have fun yourself, keep on-site prep to a minimum. With all the ready-made gourmet treats on store shelves these days, you might find that its as easy to serve pate as PB&J.
