Do you smell hamburgers grilling? Are footballs whizzing by your head? Can
you hear boom boxes blasting in every direction? You must be at a tailgate
party!
Whether it’s baseball, basketball, football or hockey, there’s nothing
like a pre-game parking lot party to fire you up to root for the home
team. All it takes is some good friends, good food and good music.
But before you put on your rally caps, plan ahead. Coordinate with your
friends to decide who will bring what—from the coolers and grills to the
burgers and chips. If you’re taking more than one car, agree on a meeting
place somewhere other than the stadium lot. It’s hard enough to maneuver
through parking lots the size of Rhode Island, without having to find
one particular space.
Now for the music. A parking lot with a 1000 people is just that—a parking
lot. Add two parts “We Will Rock You,” a drop of “Pump up the Jam,” and
next thing you know, presto: Instant Tailgate Party!
Paint your face with team colors while grooving to “Get Ready for This,”
“Go Team” and “Give It Up.” Wave your giant foam fingers to the beat of
“Like to Move It,” “Mony Mony” or “Come Baby Come.” Once inside the stadium,
with a little luck, the party mood will carry on with “Centerfield,” “YMCA,”
“Defense” and, of course, “Na Na Hey Hey.” Drew’s Famous rocks the lot
and gets the crowd charged.
